May I tell you a History?

"As a man was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their  leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.

He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away. “Well,” trainer said, “when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”

The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right where they were."

All the elephant needed to do, was, to take a step forward, and the rope would break, and he would be free.

Or as someone I know said "Sometimes All it takes is a feather to breakthrough"

Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before?

Do you think the largest living animal with 11 ft tall and body mass of 5.2 - 6.9 tons could brake the tiny rope?

As well as the elephants, big, strong, full of potential, we humans, have an even bigger potential inside of us, actually just waiting for us to be unleashed, so that we be all that we can be.
Similar to the elephant all that it takes is to take a step and see, just  before our eyes, what we are capable of.

The difference is of course the rope  holding us can be in different forms, here are the most common:

  • Perfectionism, "I must get it perfect the first time"
  • Fear of criticism, looking foolish, being laughed at
  • Unsure, about the end results, will it work, will I be successful?
  • Wanting or expecting someone to come rescue you and do it for you
  • Stubbornness, "I won’t and you can’t make me"
  • Wanting guarantees, to know the end results before starting
  • Procastination The longer you wait, the more fear, anxiety and stress build up leading to depression.
  • Not worth it Thrive on negative attention and playing the part of the Victim
  • Overwhelm by fear of success

One of the answer is within you, be willing to be innocent like a child, use your childlike curiosity.  That means get out of you head.

Take a look at the same challenges, from this perspective. Do you think, a childlike  curiosity would help?, you can bet it would.

Perfectionism, Fear of criticism, Unsure, laziness, Stubbornness, Wanting guarantees, Overwhelm by fear of success.

Once you take an honest look at them, share what your challenge is and how it will be different from this new perspective.
For me, the challenge was, to write a perfect blog, and after getting help from someone willing to do whatever, to pull, push, yell, with the sole intention to show me that the rope was invisible and it was only in my mind, and a couple of days later, here I am writing something that it is not perfect, by any means, but it is sure the first step that I needed to see with my own eyes, that I can do it. That I always could, all it took was a feather, some action and the willingness to do the work, just like a child, just curious and willing to "play" and enjoy the moment.
